Beechwood
Cobbam, Surrey
2019 – 2020

Our project at Beechwood in Cobham, Surrey, comprised two major extensions and a considerable reconfiguration of the ground and first-floor layout to a large detached 1970's dwelling.
Our clients have exquisite taste and one half of them, an Architectural photographer is also a friend of our studio. They have a love for Mid-Century Modern design and together we developed what we jokingly refer to as
"'Mid-Century Cobham'.
The first extension is a two-storey gable end volume to the front of the dwelling, comprising a small screening room with an Oriel window, garage and utility. The first floor has two large bedrooms with Juliet balconies, ensuites and fitted wardrobe joinery.
The second extension, a single-storey volume to the rear creates a new dining room and kitchen, opening onto a patio, allowing for a new larger living space in the reconfigured existing volume. The result is a greatly improved flow between spaces, allowing natural light to permeate throughout the existing spaces, updating and accommodating more modern modes of living.
